Probably Shouldn't Point That Out
*** continued from previous post ***
Back we trudge to the main Lodge, but I'm looking over my shoulder the entire 20 feet. I mean come on! I've been watching Buicks on toothpick-legs wander, stumble, run, bounce, jump, and meander mere feet away from my present unprotected location all day long. I'm taking no chances. They could have used the wallow as a distraction, and were now sitting in the trees. With sniper rifles. Call it species-ism if you want, but I just don't trust moose. Shifty eyes. Fancy dewlap. Who do they think they are anyway?
Mom stops abruptly and I nearly run into the back of her. "Why do you insist on hiding behind me every time we step out the door?"
"No reason. Keep moving. And walk a serpentine path - you walk straight to the door they're going to zero in on you, then 'ffffffffffttt' SPLAT! There goes your chance of ever getting a hat to fit properly again."
Mom grabs my hand and pulls me alongside her. "I'm talking away your Call Of Duty 4 when we get home."
Ha! Idle threats and she knows it! Besides, COD5 is due out in the fall.
"Just trying to add a little distraction and lighten the mood sweetie."
"My mood is light. Don't push it."
Perhaps now is not the time to point out the inconsistencies in that sentence.
